Tell us about LandmarkShops.com. How has it grown over the years?
We launched LandmarkShops.com in December 2012 and we have grown quite significantly over the past 3 years. We still have a long way to go, though.
But I have to add that from our first year to the second year, we tripled our online sales. We grew by 207% year on year. We also tripled the traffic on our website and engagement with our traffic.
In terms of net orders, which is gross orders less returns, we quadrupled in that area as well. We are currently one month into our third financial year for LandmarkShops.com and the future looks rosy.
What are your views regarding the ecommerce market in the region?
The ecommerce industry in this part of the region is growing at about 40% year on year. We continue to work hard in order to grow at the pace we want to.
When we started in 2012, we only had three of our brand for our online shopping experience. That included Babyshop, Splash and eMax. From then till now, we have added four more major retail businesses.
We have seven retail outlets on our online shopping platform today including Lifestyle, Max, Shoemart, and Centrepoint. We have currently 14 retail businesses in total and in the next year or two, we are planning to bring all of them online.
Which industry segments have you seen the major chunk of demand generating from?
We believe that there is a great amount of demand happening for all the segments we represent online. When we started in 2012, we had the women, men, baby, and electronics departments as part of our online offering.
Then, we added home, beauty, and shoes, too. All our brands have thousands of sub-brands within them. Today we have about 35,000 products on our ecommerce platform.
Omnichannel is something that is a big part of our regional and overall strategy. We really want to connect the online shopping space to our in-store network in a very seamless 360-degree kind of a scenario.
Tell us about your recently launched iPad app.
We have successfully launched our iPad app and it’s been only weeks now. It is very much part of our omnichannel strategy. So you can now download the app and start shopping online right away.
In addition, you can walk into any of our shops and if you are looking for something which is not available in-store, a salesperson armed with an iPad will come up to you and offer you an assortment of merchandise sourced from our online shopping channel and capture a sale right at the store. Mobility is incredibly important for our overall strategy.
What are your future plans for LandmarkShops.com?
Our online shopping experience is currently only available in the UAE and we will be adding new territories pretty soon. We are already present currently in over 30 countries and we want to bring this onmichannel experience to all the markets we are present in.
We will also be launching the iOS and Android versions of our mobile app very soon.
